About Chess Arabians

“The Black Stallion” is an American family film from 1979, directed by Carroll Ballard. The movie is based on the beloved book “The Black Stallion” by Walter Farley. This captivating story of a wild black Arabian stallion has inspired and fascinated horse lovers worldwide.

Our Passion for Black Arabian Horses

At Chess Arabians, we are deeply inspired by the mystique and strength of the black Arabian stallion. His powerful presence and enigmatic beauty drive our passion for breeding and preserving these magnificent horses. Our goal is to keep the legacy and mystery of black Arabians alive through dedicated and responsible breeding practices.

The Rich History of the Arabian Horse

According to Arabian legend, God created the Arabian thoroughbred from the south. The Prophet Muhammad instructed the nomadic tribes to maintain the purity of this breed. During his flight from Mecca to Medina, Muhammad and his followers galloped for hours through the desert. When their horses discovered water, Muhammad called them back, and seven mares, the most loyal, returned. These mares—Sakab (Muhammad’s favorite riding horse), Lezaz (strong and muscular), Tarb (light when she moves), Wonard (red chestnut with a black mane and tail), Lakif (rock cave), Nakif (nervous and excited), and Martiagiaz (captured by the enemy)—became the foundation of the Arabian breed.

This legend highlights the desired loyalty and character of Arabian horses, known for staying with a fallen rider. Arabs call the Arabian horse Keheilan, meaning “through and through pure.”

The Essence of Straight Egyptian Arabians

Straight Egyptian Arabians trace their lineage back to the mares and stallions of Viceroy Mohammed Ali and his grandson Abbas Pasha I. These horses have remained authentic and pure, coming in an unbroken line from Bedouin tribes in the Arabian deserts.

Our Focus: Grey and Black Straight Egyptian Arabians

At Chess Arabians, we have had various bloodlines on our farm, but we now focus on breeding and preserving old Egyptian bloodlines. Our specialty lies in grey straight Egyptian and black Arabian horses. This focus has inspired the name “Chess Arabians,” reflecting the contrasting elegance of black and grey like pieces on a chessboard.
